Qld woman busted trying to import 2kg of meth in handbags

A Brisbane woman has been busted trying to import approximately two kilograms of methamphetamine.

The 55-year-old arrived at Melbourne International Airport on Tuesday on a flight from Malaysia when she was selected by Australian Border Force officers for a baggage examination.

A search of the woman’s belongings revealed abnormalities within two handbags, with an examination revealing the presence of a crystalline substance which tested positive for methamphetamine.

The woman was taken into custody by Australian Federal Police at the airport.

She was charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug and possessing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug.

The woman was remanded in custody to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court.
