Qld woman killed, child injured in horror head-on crash on NSW highway

A woman has died and a child and another woman have been seriously injured in a horror, head-on crash on the New England Highway.

Police said initial investigations suggest that around 7.30am, a Hyundai and Mercedes collided head on, about 10 kilometres north of Scone.

The drivers of both cars were trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed by emergency crews.

A 68-year-old Queensland woman, who was driving the Hyundai died at the scene.

A young girl, who was a passenger in the car, sustained serious injuries.

Police say it’s understood the pair are members of the same family and that other family members were travelling in a separate car at the time of the crash.

A 51–year-old woman from Wingen, who was the driver of the Mercedes was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Her current condition is unknown.

Investigations are ongoing.
