Queensland boasts the most regional job vacancies
IT’s been revealed Queensland now has the most regional job vacancies in all of Australia.
One in three regional job vacancies across the country are currently available in the Sunshine State, according to new figures from the Regional Australia Institute (RAI).
RAI’s co-CEO Liz Ritchie says more than 13,000 jobs were advertised in August in regional Queensland, with a large amount of those considered professional roles.
“Across the six areas in regional Queensland, there were more than 3,200 professional jobs on offer.
“These roles include doctors, nurses, finance workers, human resource managers, engineers, educational professionals, sales and marketing managers, and media representatives,” Ms Ritchie said.
The Gold Coast accounted for 3385 of the 13,000 roles, second to Far North Queensland (4642), and is made up of:
- 842 Professional roles (medical practitioners and nurses, also business finance and HR),
- 576 Clerical and administrative roles (mainly for General-Inquiry Clerks, Call Centre Workers, and Receptionists),
- 496 Technicians and trade workers roles
Population, jobs and regional migration are the key issues being discussed in Brisbane today at Regions Rising QLD, which is the fifth stop in the RAI’s national roadshow that takes in every capital city this year.
“Regional Australia has many job opportunities, and we know many communities are working locally to come up with solutions to fill these roles.
“The RAI is pleased the new five-year Far North Queensland Designated Area Migration Agreement (FNQ DAMA) has just come into effect, which will encourage migrants to take up vacant positions in that area,” Ms Ritchie said.
By 2056, outer Brisbane is expected to triple in size to nearly 3 million people, while regional centres will only double.
However, job vacancy rates in regional areas are expected to continue outstripping the capital cities.
“Regional Queensland is changing, and with that comes boundless opportunities to re-think what it will look like, and how we want to shape our country as a whole,” Ms Ritchie said.
