Queensland MPs to vote on changes to abortion laws

CHANGES to abortion laws in Queensland will be considered in parliament today.

A private member’s bill to legalise abortion in the Sunshine State will be tabled by independent MP Rob Pyne.

Labor MPs are being allowed a conscience vote, while the LNP has confirmed it will consider the bill, but has not made its stance clear.

As the bill stands, women up to nine months pregnant could abort their foetus. But Mr Pyne, who resigned from the ALP in March, has revealed he would be open to amendments on that matter.
