Today marks the start of Ambulance Week and the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) is inviting the community to join in state-wide celebrations this week.
Commissioner Russell Bowles said Ambulance Week gave Queenslanders the chance to discover more about the QAS, from when it started as Queensland Ambulance Service Transport Brigade to its current operations today.
“If you’ve ever thought about doing a first aid course or CPR training, wondered what a paramedic did on a typical day or wanted to explore inside an ambulance station, Ambulance Week is the ideal time,” Mr Bowles said.

“Ambulance stations across the state will be opening their doors to the public as well as conducting CPR awareness sessions and hosting an array of displays at key events.”
Ambulance Week is celebrated throughout Queensland and is held from September 7-11, 2015. Mr Bowles said it gave QAS the chance to recognise the achievements of their staff and volunteers who had excelled in their roles.
“Paramedics, Emergency Medical Dispatchers and volunteers provide help and hope for Queenslanders in their darkest hours all-year round,” he said.
“Ambulance Week also gives the community an opportunity to meet the people behind the uniforms that keep their loved ones safe and help them in an emergency.”
Award ceremonies will be held across Queensland to present staff with Long Service and National Medals to recognise long and diligent service with QAS.
“I will also be presenting an array of Achievement Awards at the state awards ceremony in Brisbane, including a Young Hero of the Year award and awards for fostering innovation, excellence in performance and leadership, courage, integrity and customer focus.”
The 2015 Queensland Ambulance Service Commissioner’s Achievement Awards are held at Kedron Emergency Services Complex, cnr Park and Kedron Park Rds, Kedron, from 2pm on Wednesday, September 9 and a State Remembrance Service is held at the Chermside Kedron Uniting Church, 590 Gympie Rd, Chermside, from 2pm on Friday, September 11.
