RAAF to conduct low-level flyover on the Gold Coast

One of the newest members of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) fleet will treat Gold Coast residents to a low-level flyover today.

The C-27J Spartan will travel between the Gold Coast and Moreton Island this afternoon as part of a training exercise.

The flyover is expected to take place between 2pm and 3.30pm.

The C-27J Spartan will take off from RAAF Base Amberley before heading to Hastings Point, before it turns east to Coolangatta.

It will then head up along the coast to Stradbroke Island before reaching the northern up of Moreton Island where it will return to base.

The C-27J Spartan is smaller than the C-130J Hercules and C-17A Globemaster aircraft but can perform similar tasks.

The first aircraft arrived in Australia in 2015 with the whole fleet shifting to RAAF Base Amberley earlier this year.
