Rain on the Gold Coast is baffling locals

The Gold Coast has received more rain in one day than the whole month of January, and it’s turning us a bit silly.

After the driest January on record, it’s been a bit of a shock to wake up to small flood puddles around the coast.

Tallebudgera received a whopping 37mm of rain overnight, while other parts of the coast clocked up between 15mm and 30mm.

These numbers are already double or triple the January average of a dismal 10mm.

Residents in Molendinar have woken to some strange sights – with part of Enterprise Street flooding before Olsen avenue.

In a photo below, one man can be seen trying push away the water with a lawn mower.

Lauren Pattie from the Weather Bureau says it’s been a while since we seen falls like this.

“It has been dry in recent months, however in February we’ve started to see an increase in that rainfall, particularly last night and into this morning,” Ms Pattie said.

More photos of the flooding in Molendinar below show garbage bins are upturned and floating in the street.
