Rebel Wilson admits she put on weight to get famous

We are used to hearing stories of actresses losing weight to make it in Hollywood, but Rebel Wilson has revealed she did the opposite to get famous.

Speaking to the Telegraph, the 36-year-old said she realised being a “bigger” girl would benefit her career whilst performing her first play alongside an actress who was bigger than her.

“And I was like: ‘Oh. That girl’s getting a lot of laughs, a lot easier than me. What is it?’ Because I don’t think there’s much difference in talent,” she told the publication.

“And I remember distinctly thinking: ‘I think it’s because she’s fatter’. And then, I don’t know if it was mega-conscious, but I thought: ‘How can I get more laughs? Maybe if I was a bit fatter …’ And then suddenly I was fatter, and doing comedy.”

The Pitch Perfect actress continued: “I saw my size as being an advantage, whereas so many women see it as a disadvantage. Bigger girls do better in comedy.”

Wilson told the publication a hormonal imbalance made it easy for her to rapidly gain weight. However, she said she can also shed the kilos if she wants to.
