RECALL: Customers warned to stop using dangerous Christmas LED lights

A popular string of Christmas lights have been recalled over fears they pose a serious electrical safety risk.

In a recall notice posted on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission website, discount outlet store Trade Secret said they were recalling the Copper wire LED lights sold with a US plug, stating that they do not comply with relevant safety standards.

“The US Plug is for use in the United States of America and does not comply with relevant Australian Electrical Safety Standards,” the statement reads.

“These lights should not be used with Australian power outlets.”

The recalled lights were sold at Trade Secret stores in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria between the 6 November 2016 and 8 December 2016.

Customers with the affected lights have been urged to return them to their nearest Trade Secret Store for a full refund or exchange.
