Rekindling wins Australia’s 2017 Melbourne Cup
Rekindling has beaten Johannes Vermeer in a nail biting finish at Flemington this afternoon.
The Joseph O’Brien-trained horse galloped his way to victory, claiming the 157th Melbourne Cup title.
Winning jockey Corey Brown said he just “couldn’t believe it”.
“Oh honestly, I chased the ride about six weeks ago and with a light weight I was a big chance to get on him,” Brown said.
“I can’t believe it. I have been back here from overseas about nine months and slowly and surely getting back to where I was. Mate, again I can’t believe it.”
“It is so special, I have my family with me and the girls are old enough to come to the races and enjoy it. I am lost for words.”
Rekindling was the youngest horse in the race, aged just four-years-old.
