Burgess extended his stay with South Sydney to the end of 2018 in October but later expressed an interest in the NFL.
There was bad news earlier for Hayne, who did play a few games with the San Francisco 49ers before being dropped from the side.
He was signed to their practice squad in October after dropping three punts in six games.
Coach Jim Tomsula spoke to reporters to answer claims that Hayne may be close to getting his punt return job back.
He said he was surprised to hear special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey say that returner Bruce Ellington was just one fumble away from being sacked.
