US SHOOTING: Sailor opens fire at Pearl Harbor Navy base
UPDATE @ 2.45 PM | TWO victims have now died after being shot by a Sailor at the Pearl Harbor Navy Base near Honolulu, in Hawaii.
The gunman opened fire at the military base around 2.30pm, before turning the gun on himself.
A third victim is receiving treatment in hospital, however is believed to be in a stable condition.
According to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, all three victims were civilians working for the US Department of Defence.
Investigations into the shooting are continuing.
EARLIER @ 1.00 PM | Three Department of Defense workers have been shot at the Pearl Harbor Navy Base near Honolulu, in Hawaii.
The gunman, who has been revealed as a US Navy Sailor, opened fire around 2.30pm before turning the gun on himself.
Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam confirmed the shooting in a tweet.
“The sailor reportedly shot and injured three Department of Defense civilian workers before shooting themself. The incident took place this afternoon at the vicinity of the shipyard’s Dry Dock 2. The base is no longer in lockdown,” they said.
The victims have all been rushed to hospital, with two reportedly in a critical condition.
Base security and Navy investigative services are currently investigating the incident.
It’s understood the names of the victims will not be released until the next of kin have been notified.
Hawaii’s Governor David Ige has taken to social media to express his heartbreak.
“I join in solidarity with the people of Hawaii as we express our heartbreak over this tragedy and concern for those affected by the shooting.”
He says the White House has “reached out to offer assistance from federal agencies, and the state is standing by to assist where necessary.”

Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam confirmed the shooting in a tweet, saying security forces are currently responding to the incident.
“JBPHH security forces have responded to a reported shooting at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard,” they said.
“The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m.”
It’s not been confirmed how many people have been shot, however local media say three people.

The base was initially sent into lockdown, however that has since been lifted.
