Whale freed after becoming caught in Gold Coast shark nets

UPDATE @ 8.55am: A whale trapped in shark nets off the Gold Coast has managed to free itself.

The whale is understood to have become trapped in waters off Albert Avenue at Broadbeach around 8.00am this morning.

It managed to release itself before Sea World crews arrived.

EARLIER @ 8.30am: Sea World rescue crews are on their way to help release a whale caught in shark nets off the Gold Coast.

Director of Marine Services Trevor Long confirmed the whale was stuck and said his crews are rushing to the scene.

It’s understood the whale is caught off Albert Avenue at Broadbeach.
