Residents given free access to waste facilities to clear yard of flood debris

RESIDENTS who want to clear their yard of debris and make a few trips to the tip following the recent flooding can do so for free on the Gold Coast this weekend.

To assist those impacted by the recent extreme weather, residents and businesses can dispose of their waste at the City’s waste and recycling centres and landfills free of charge but for today and tomorrow (Sunday) only.

Flood or storm debris that is transported in a commercial vehicle or truck should be taken directly to a City landfill site, at either Stapylton or Reedy Creek.

Mayor Tom Tate has urged residents and businesses that were not impacted by the floods to respect those who were by staying away from the waste facilities this weekend.

“This will mean those affected residents can access our facilities quickly and easily. All the waste facilities are likely to be busy, so your patience is appreciated,” he said.

“Please note that City staff are required to manage waste appropriately, weigh loads on weighbridges, and that normal restrictions on the types of waste that can be accepted at some waste facilities still applies.

“This includes potential hazardous waste and asbestos.”
