REVEALED | Most popular names for Qld babies in 2021

Queensland’s top baby names for 2021 have been unveiled and the girl’s name ‘Charlotte’ has finally been dethroned.

The same can’t be said for the most popular name for a boy, with ‘Oliver’ landing in the top spot for the ninth year in a row.

‘Isla’ is now the most popular name for a girl.

Attorney-General and Minister for Women and the Prevention of Domestic Violence, Shannon Fentiman, says it’s the first time ‘Isla’ had topped the charts.

“Charlotte had been the most popular girl’s name for five of the previous six years, but dropped to third favourite in 2021, behind Isla and Olivia,” Minister Fentiman said.

“In contrast, Oliver was the most popular baby boy name for the ninth consecutive year.

“There’s going to be a lot of Olivers running around school playgrounds for the next couple of decades.

“As was the case last year, Oliver was comfortably the most popular boys’ name, again well ahead of Noah,” she said.

Matilda and Lily were newcomers to the girls’ top 10, replacing Sophie and Harper.

For the boys, ‘Henry’ displaced ‘Jack’ in third place, while ‘Charlie’ replaced ‘Thomas’ in the only change to the boys’ top 10.

Queensland Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages also recorded a few firsts, with the name ‘Koa’ landing in the top 100 for the boys names, along with Huxley.

While ‘Octavia’ entered the top 100 girls’ names for the first time.
