A paediatric nurse at Tweed Hospital has been named the winner of the 1029 Hot Tomato Gold Coast Nursing Award for March 2018.
Rhonda Davies has passionately worked as a nurse for more than 20 years, and has spent most of her career caring for sick children.
“They are the most incredible patients – they don’t pretend to be sick and you can notice straight away when they start to feel better,” she told myGC.

“As a paediatric nurse, you are not just dealing with the patients, but you are working with their whole family unit which can be challenging but very rewarding.”
Rhonda told myGC that from a young age, she always wanted to be a nurse.
“My father was an ambo, and I always loved helping people, so it was a natural career choice for me,” she said.
“I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. Not only do I get to help some incredible kids, I also work with a great bunch of nurses. There are so many experienced nurses in my team that I value as mentors and am still constantly learning from them.”
Along with a certificate, Rhonda wins $250 and is now a finalist in the Annual Awards where she could be awarded the annual winner’s cash prize of $5,000.
