Ride share driver charged over alleged indecent assault of woman

A Sydney ride share driver has been charged over the alleged indecent assault of a female customer.

Police say a 27-year-old man picked up the 21-year-old woman and a male friend at a fast food restaurant in Kingsford around 12.50am on Sunday.

The male friend was dropped off at his address first, while the woman remained in the car to be dropped off at her home next.

However, police allege that during the trip to the young woman’s home, the ride share driver made inappropriate comments before reaching over and indecently assaulting her.

After arriving at her destination, the woman got out of the vehicle and ran into her unit complex.

“The man allegedly followed her into the complex and assaulted the woman further before she was able to escape and run away,” NSW police said in a statement.

Following investigations, police arrested the 27-year-old at a home in North Sydney around 10am today.

He was taken to Chatswood Police Station and charged with with two counts act of indecency and two counts of common assault.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Manly Local Court on Thursday 31 May.
