Rider killed in horror motorbike crash

A MAN on a motorbike has been killed in a horror crash at a motocross track west of Wollongong.

It happened at the Wollongong Motorcycle Club’s motorcross track at Kembla Heights on Sunday morning.

Police said the man, 51, taking part in a social ride when he struck a tree on the dirt trail about 10.30am.

Sadly, the man’s injuries were too severe and he could not be saved.

“Despite efforts at the scene, the male was unable to be revived,” a NSW Police spokeswoman said.

A crime scene has been set up on the track and is being examined by forensic specialists.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and will prepare a report for the Coroner.

The Wollongong Motorcycle Club confirmed the death in a post on their Facebook page.

“It is with deep regret that we announce the fatality of a rider at our Complex today,” the post said.

“Our thoughts and sympathies go out to the family and friends of the deceased.”

The motocross complex, off Harry Graham Drive, was closed for the day following the tragedy.
