ROAD CLOSURES: Cosplayers to fill Broadbeach streets for Supanova parade

Thousands of men, women and children will dress up as their favourite character, superhero or villain and walk the streets of Broadbeach today.

The 2018 Supernova Superhero Parade is the only one of its kind in Australia and is expected to be the biggest yet.

The parade will be led by Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi, in his trusty car Bessie, and weave along Queensland Ave, Old Burleigh Rd, Surf Pde and Victoria Ave.

“Police have been working with event organisers and stakeholders to ensure the parade is conducted safely and with minimum disruption to traffic,” Police said in a statement.

“Motorists are advised that travelling anywhere near the Broadbeach CBD during this event may result in traffic congestion and delays due to the diversions that will be in place.”

“Police will be present to ensure public safety and minimal disruption to local residents and businesses throughout the parade.”

The parade begins at 9am with partial closures of the following Broadbeach roads from 6.00am to 11.00am on Sunday April 29:

• Queensland Avenue from Old Burleigh Road to Surf Parade;
• Old Burleigh Road from Charles Avenue to Queensland Avenue;
• Surf Parade from Queensland Avenue to Charles Avenue;
• Victoria Avenue from the Gold Coast Highway to Oasis Carpark entry/exit.
