The trial of a New Zealand man accused of dealing a Queensland man a “heavy blow” to the head before he fell into the path of a truck just north of the Gold Coast continues in court today.
Tamate Henry Heke allegedly struck Shane Merrigan, before he was hit by an oncoming truck on the Gateway Motorway at Eight Mile Plains in December 2015.
Both men had been making their way home from work before pulling off the highway and facing off.

Heke pleaded not guilty to one count of manslaughter and not guilty to an alternative charge of unlawful striking causing death.
He told police he didn’t intend to get into a fight when he pulled his car over.
He said Merrigan had been flipping off Heke from behind the wheel.
The trial is scheduled to resume in Brisbane this morning.
