Rock fisherman dies despite desperate attempts by surfers to save him

A rock fisherman has died after he was pulled from water south of Yamba, in northern NSW yesterday.

Emergency crews were called to the southern side of Sandon Beach around 8.15am on Wednesday, following reports a man had fallen off rocks on Plover Island.

It’s understood the 67-year-old man was pulled from the water by two surfers.

The pair immediately commenced CPR before paramedics arrived, but sadly, the man could not be revived and died at the scene.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
