Rolf Harris a free man after jury fails to reach verdict

Australian entertainer Rolf Harris will not face a retrial over historical sexual assault allegations.

A jury in London has failed to reach a verdict on four charges of indecent assault and the prosecution won’t seek another trial.

Harris had been accused of groping three teenage girls in the 1970’s and 80’s.

The 87-year-old will return to his home in the UK, having completed a jail sentence for 12 previous convictions of indecent assault.

Lawyer Daniel Burke read out a statement from Harris outside the London court.

“Whilst I am pleased this is all over, I feel no sense of victory, just relief,” he said.

“I am 87-years-old, my wife is in ill health and we simply want to spend our remaining time together in peace.”
