SEVERE weather from ex tropical cyclone Debbie is causing havoc across the Gold Coast today with people warned to stay at home.
All Gold Coast schools have been closed with businesses also urged to shut up shop by midday due to torrential rainfall and severe localised flash flooding.
The Government has announced that all public transport will be free from 10.00am today to make it easier for people to get home safely.

“We’ve made the decision to make public transport free today to make sure people can get home safely,” Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said.

All schools from Agnes Water to the NSW border have been closed and will remain closed tomorrow (Friday).
University & Tafe
Griffith University Campus – closed
Bond University – closed
Ashmore Tafe – closed
University of Queensland – closed
Southern Cross University GC Campus – closed
Dreamworld – closed
White Water World – closed
Movie World – closed
Sea World – closed
Wet n Wild – closed
Australia Zoo – closed
Coles Supermarkets at Robina, Mudgeeraba, Benowa and Southport – closed
Every Woolworths store across the coast – closing at 5.00pm
There are reports several other supermarkets across the coast have also been ordered to shut up shop.
Brisbane Courts have cancelled all cases today
Gold Coast Airport is currently open and operational, however Virgin Australia has confirmed the cancellation of all services from 12:00pm and all Tigerair services have been cancelled for the remainder of the day.
Breast Screen Qld is closing its clinics today and will reschedule appointments
All elective surgery and outpatients appointments cancelled at Gold Coast University Hospital and Robina Hospital
All Emergency Departments are operating as normal with emergency surgeries going ahead
Hope Island General Practice – closed
All Gold Coast beaches – closed
Upper Coomera Library – closed
State Library of Qld – closed
Four City libraries are open as safe spaces – Elanora, Southport, Robina and Helensvale.
These are not evacuation centres but people can visit these should they need a safe haven.
