Ron Medich ‘guilty’ of the murder of former business partner Michael McGurk

Disgraced Sydney property developer Ron Medich is set to live out the rest of his days in prison, after being found guilty of orchestrating the 2009 murder of his nemesis, Michael McGurk.

The 70-year-old paid $500,000 to have his former business partner ‘taken out’, amid multi-million dollar legal battles which Medich believed would send him broke.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the NSW Supreme Court heard Medich turned to close confidant and former boxer, Fortunato “Lucky” Gattellari, to get the job done.

“This f***ing bastard is ruining my life,” Medich said.

“He’s got to go, I’ll get you the money.”

McGurk, 45, was shot dead in front of his son as he got out of his Mercedes at his Cremorne home on September 3, 2009.

Nine years later, Medich reportedly sat “shell shocked” when the verdict was read out today, after a jury in 2017 was unable to reach a verdict on the case.

He was also found guilty of the subsequent intimidation of McGurk’s widow Kimberley.

Medich is now behind bars, awaiting his sentencing. He is facing a life sentence, but is expected to appeal the decision.

Gattellari agreed to be the Crown’s star witness after receiving a 60 per cent discount on his sentence and is currently serving a minimum of 7 ½ years’ jail for organising two men to carry out the hit.
