Runaway Bay house fire treated as suspicious

A FIRE which destroyed a luxury Runaway Bay home at the weekend is being treated as suspicious.

Police have been assisting fire investigators at the Pebble Beach Drive home today to try and determine the cause of the blaze.

Fire fighters spent hours extinguishing the blaze, which broke out around 4am on Sunday.

A large gas bottle exploded shortly after crews arrived, forcing the evacuation of the entire street.

Acting Chief Superintendent Ben Hanbidge said the fire will be treated as suspicious until the cause can be determined.

Police have so far been unable to contact the owner of the house.
