Rural crews work alongside ADF to monitor Canungra bushfire

FIRE crews are working with the Australian Defence Force to monitor a bushfire which has broken out under blustery conditions in inaccessible land at the Kokoda Barracks in Canungra.

The blaze was first reported around 2.15pm on Sunday afternoon and currently poses no threat to property.

Air observations are being conducted in the area.

Smoke will affect suburbs including Canungra, Lower Beechmont, Witherin and Advancetown. Residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed and keep medications close by for any respiratory conditions.

Motorists are urged to use caution where smoke is affecting road visibility.

If residents feel their property is at threat they should phone Triple Zero (000) immediately.
