Russians charged with meddling in US Presidential election

Allegations are building against Russia, as part of an investigation into what is believed to have been meddling in the 2016 US Presidential election.

A Russian internet agency and 13 Russian nationals have been charged with staging a plot to sabotage the race between Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump, who claimed a surprise victory.

The office of special counsel Robert Mueller has made the allegations, claiming that the Russians used fake social media postings and advertisements fraudulently purchased in the name of Americans to sway political opinion during 2014-16.

Charges include conspiracy, wire fraud, bank fraud and aggravated identity theft.
