Samantha Stosur’s French Open dreams have been shattered for another year after the Australian bowed out in the fourth round.
The former finalist of the tournament suffered a painful loss to Latvian young gun Jelena Ostapenko going down 2-6 6-2 6-4 yesterday.
The 33-year-old was unable to recover after requiring medical attention for a persistant hand issue after dropping the second set.

Stosur had held Australia’s number one ranking since usurping Casey Dellacqua in October, 2008, but has now relinquished top spot to Daria Gavrilova.
Ostapenko will face 11th-seeded Caroline Wozniacki tomorrow in her maiden grand slam quarter- final.
