A man who dresses up as Santa Claus during the festive season to put a smile on the faces of little kids has experienced the most heartbreaking encounter of all time after a terminally-ill young boy died in his arms.
Eric Schmitt-Matzen from Tennesse, had just gotten home from his day job as a mechanical engineer when he received a phone call asking him to rush to his local hospital to visit a sick, 5-year-old boy who wanted to see Santa, USA Today reports.
The 60-year-old told the news site that he gave the youngster a present, however he was so weak that he could hardly even open it.

“When I walked in, he was laying there, so weak it looked like he was ready to fall asleep. I sat down on his bed and asked, ‘Say, what’s this I hear about you’re gonna miss Christmas? There’s no way you can miss Christmas! Why, you’re my Number One elf!”
Mr Schmitt-Matzen then gave the boy a hug, holding him as he passed away in his arms.
“I drove all the way home from the hospital in tears,” Mr Schmitt-Matzen told USA today.
