SCAM ALERT: People warned of ‘malicious’ tax scam doing the rounds

The Australian Tax Office has issued a warning about a new tax email scam currently doing the rounds.

In a post on social media, the ATO said the scam tries to convince people to click on a link which is ridden with malware.

The scammer allegedly pretends that the ATO has “mistakenly accrued interest for me and you” and asks the recipient to read a document by clicking on the hyperlink.

Got a phone call from the Australian Taxation Office LOLOL… uh oh… said they were going to arrest me if I do not contact them back regarding unpaid taxes. I will call back this scammer for fun and ask if they will bring the pink fluffy handcuffs 😀 (03)59027986 (James Anderson) I also run an anti scam page on fb named Scamming Scammers Action. I am Australian. I had a page with 40000 legit followers but fb deleted the page…… more if you want to talk. cheers

ADMIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WOULD PREFER MY SURNAME DELETED……… THANK YOU

Done.

My daughter received the tax scam phone call on a recently installed telstra phone line which is in my name we have never had the phone call out our other house where the phone is not telstra. there was also 2 scam letters turned up at each address both addressed to me! An overseas Telstra call centre is the only way anyone could associate my name with the address my daughter is living at. So my theory would be all the people getting these phone calls are telstra customers as the information has been onsold from an overseas telstra call centre.
