SCAM ALERT: People warned of ‘malicious’ tax scam doing the rounds
The Australian Tax Office has issued a warning about a new tax email scam currently doing the rounds.
In a post on social media, the ATO said the scam tries to convince people to click on a link which is ridden with malware.
The scammer allegedly pretends that the ATO has “mistakenly accrued interest for me and you” and asks the recipient to read a document by clicking on the hyperlink.
“WARNING New email scam with malicious link on the loose!” the ATO said in the post.
“Do not click the link or reply to the email. Forward the email to us at ReportEmailFraud@ato.gov.au and then DELETE it from your inbox and sent items.”
