Scans confirm Suns star Matt Rowell will miss ‘extended period’

SCANS have confirmed the worst for Gold Coast Suns fans, with rising superstar Matt Rowell set for another extended stint on the sidelines.

The No.1 draft pick went down early in the first quarter of the side’s 25-point loss to West Coast on in Perth on Sunday night before flying back to undergo scans on the Gold Coast on Monday night.

The results of those scans this morning have confirmed the midfielder sustained damage to his PCL. The club is expected to provide further details on the full extent of the injury later on Tuesday.

The club said set no timeline for his return but have said he “is expected to be available to play football again in 2021.”

General Manager Football Jon Haines recognised the way in which the young midfielder had handled himself during difficult circumstances.

“It’s unfortunate for Matt as he had worked tirelessly to ensure he was ready to play after recovering from the shoulder injury he suffered last season,” Haines said.

“The long-term health of his knee is positive.

There is no specific timeline for his return at this stage and we will update as required”.
