It’s a perfect example of community buying power – bulk purchasing solar electricity with others in your area to get a discount on your power bill.
The innovative concept was created by Suncrowd as a solution to help “transition to a clean energy future,” and it’s being pitched to locals in the Northern Rivers region of NSW – including Tweed Heads and Murwillumbah – in the coming weeks.
Suncrowd told myGC that the event is co-run with local community organisations and that the bulk-buy systems are installed by qualified, local tradespeople. The system has already been used by other community organisations in other Australian cities including Climate Action Newcastle, Repower Shoalhaven, and Community Energy 4 Goulburn.

“Bulk purchasing power, combined with a little Suncrowd innovation, means that…we are able to offer prices which routinely achieve a 10-24% saving on market averages.
“Community Partners, typically a local non-profit organisation, co-run the local bulk buy specific to local needs; Community Energy Experts, nominated by the local Community Partner, provide independent free one-on-one advice to participants; [and] quality local installers are selected to participate in the bulk buy.”
