Scenic Rim named in Lonely Planet’s top 10 regions to travel

Tourism operators in Queensland’s Scenic Rim will be cheering today, with the region named in the top ten places to visit in 2022.

Global travel authority Lonely Planet today unveiled its top 10 countries, cities and regions to visit next year, with our very own Scenic Rim taking out the Number 8 spot in the region category in an exciting coup for the sunshine state.

The honour comes as Queensland prepares to reopen its borders to the rest of the country on December 17, with hopes today’s news will entice an influx of visitors to the region.

“Located just one hour south of Brisbane and 30 minutes from the heart of the Gold Coast, Queensland’s Scenic Rim boasts six national parks, ecolodges, wineries, tantalising gourmet
experiences and the World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforests,” Lonely Planet’s Chris Zeiher said.

“After bouncing back from the 2019 Black Summer bushfires with a raft of new attractions and a renewed focus on sustainability, this lesser-known corner of Queensland is primed to become of Australia’s low impact tourism power players”.

It’s understood the judges were most impressed by a number of highlights, including the picturesque new Scenic Rim trail, 17 wineries, national parks, and ecolodges which give tourists the chance to glamp at the Nightfall Wilderness Camp or stay in a heritage cottage at Mt Barney Lodge.

“We’re thrilled to see the Scenic Rim included in the world’s best destinations, especially as it’s such an untouched and diverse eco-based Australian destination,” Mr Zeiher said.

“From the amazing food and wine to the incredible rainforest and bush walks and memorable places to stay, this is an unexpected pocket of Australia that has it all.”
