School damaged by fire in suspected arson attack

QUICK-THINKING firefighters are being praised for stopping a school from burning down following a suspected arson attack west of Brisbane.

Emergency services were called to Westside Christian College at Goodna about 11pm after residents saw flames shooting out of one of the buildings.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and managed to extinguish the blaze before it spread to the rest of the school.

Police said the building sustained “significant damage” to the front, ceiling and roof. Thankfully, no one was injured.

Initial investigations indicate the fire was deliberately lit.

A crime scene has been established and is being examined by fire investigators.
