Screwdriver-wielding thief steals cash and car keys from Gold Coast shop

An armed robber is on the run this morning, after attempting to steal cigarettes from a shop on the Gold Coast that didn’t have any.

Early investigations indicate the man entered the store along Dreamworld Parkway in Coomera just after 4.30 pm.

He whipped out a screwdriver and threatened the 25-year-old male store attendant demanding cash and cigarettes.

While he was able to steal an undisclosed amount of cash from the till he wasn’t able to get the cigarettes due to the store not having any.

So the man then pinched the attendant’s keys and made off with his car, a 2007 Toyota Camry. It was last seen heading north on the M1.

No injuries were reported and investigations are continuing.
