Search for missing Queensland fisherman

A DESPERATE search has begun for a Queensland fisherman who hasn’t been heard from in the past week.

Cairns Water Police are undertaking the search for the 54-year-old from Lower Daintree.

He went to sea on March 16 in a 30-foot commercial fishing boat, and has not made contact since then.

It is believed he was heading in a southerly direction in the Lockhart River and the search is focused on the Portlands Roads area.

Water Police with assistance from Lockhart River Police will coordinate a full search at first light of the surrounding waters.

Police are also making inquiries with local fishers who may have been in contact with the man to assist to locate the vessel.
