Search suspended for young Queensland man feared swept out to sea

THE search for a Queensland man swept out to sea at a beach near Coffs Harbour has been suspended.

Daniel ‘Dan’ Price, 22, from Capalaba southeast of Brisbane, disappeared while swimming with a group of his mates at Valla Beach around 5.15pm on Saturday (AEDT).

The 22-year-old was reportedly swept up in a rip and sucked out to sea. In a statement, Surf Lifesaving NSW said the young man “vanished from view”.

Despite an extensive three-day search involving local police, marine rescue, surf lifesavers and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Mr Price has not be found.

In a statement on Wednesday morning, NSW Police confirmed authorities had suspended the search but said officers would continue to patrol the beach in case Mr Price’s body washed ashore.

The Queensland car enthusiast had travelled to Valla Beach on Friday night to attend a drifting event at Raleigh Raceway on Saturday.

Mr Price was enjoying a dip in the ocean with three of his mates after the event when tragedy struck.

Friends of Mr Price set up a GoFundMe page on Tuesday to help raise funds for his family, who have requested their privacy be respected at this time.
