It’s been a massive morning of celebrations at one of the Gold Coast’s most beloved theme parks, with SeaWorld marking its 50th birthday.
What started out as the Surfers Paradise Ski Gardens has relocated, grown and prospered into a crucial piece of the city’s tourism heart over the last five decades.
There is a lot being celebrated at the park this morning, including the fact that the park has welcomed over 50 million visitors and saved more than 10,000 animals through it’s rescue teams.

However, to Village Roadshow CEO Clark Kirby, it’s mostly a tribute to all the amazing staff.
“I think what I’m most proud of, is well over 30,000 past and present team members, throughout Seaworld,” Mr Kirby told 1029 Hot Tomato’s Galey, Emily Jade and Christo this morning.
“It’s a lot of family that we’ve created.”
The Village Roadshow Chief Operating Officer, Bikash Randhawa, is one of the staffing success stories himself but says all staff members were honoured today.
“So we had limited edition gold coins done up only for the 50-year celebration, so there’s only a handful of coins,” Mr Randhawa told Galey, Emily Jade and Christo.
“The CEO gave them to our long-serving team members from 25 years onwards to 37 years.
“There was a limited edition 50-year mug again just made for the team members. Our longest-serving is 37 years, and for me, 26 years this year, so that is incredible.
“I started my career here as a casual waiter, this was when I was at university I had 6 months to go at Griffith, and one thing lead to another and here I am.”
As part of the party today, massive cakes have been brought in for staff, visitors and even some of the animals.
While the theme park also gave away dozens of passes to Gold Coasters that will give them access to all the parks for the next 50 years!
