Second Australian soldier killed during training

An Australian soldier has been shot dead in a training mishap in the Northern Territory.

The digger, believed to be aged in his 20’s was killed during a routine training exercise at a military facility near Darwin on Wednesday.

He was flown to hospital but couldn’t be saved.

In a statement the Defence force said the soldier’s family has been notified and police are investigating.

It’s the second fatal training incident involving an Australian soldier in the past week, after Stuart Reddan died at Shoalwater Bay in central Queensland.

He was hit by a tree branch near Rockhampton.

The Army has suspended all training activities, and will review risk assessment processes and safety management.
