Second man arrested over horrific slaying of father-of-two outside NSW unit block

UPDATE: A SECOND man has been arrested over the horrific murder of a father-of-two who had his throat slashed outside his Lakemba home this morning, reportedly for talking to loudly to his deaf dad.

The 45-year-old victim died in the street outside his Garrong Road unit shortly after midnight after he was “callously and viciously” assaulted with a broken bottle without warning, reportedly by a man from a neighbouring house.

A 48-year-old man who was arrested and taken into questioning earlier this morning is expected to be released from custody this afternoon after police arrested a second 24-year-old man at around 3.30pm.

The younger man is currently being questioned by homicide detectives at Campsie Police Station.

EARLIER: A MAN has been arrested over the horrific slaying of a defenceless father-of-two who was found with this throat slashed outside his apartment at Lakemba, in Sydney’s south west overnight.

Police say the 45-year-old victim had been talking with his partially deaf father in the street outside his apartment complex when he was approached by a man from a neighbouring house who, without warning “callously and viciously” attacked him with a glass bottle.

The victim suffered “horrific” injuries to his neck and died at the scene. There are reports he was attacked for “talking too loudly” to his hearing impaired father.

Campsie Local Area Commander Superintendent Michael McLean said the victim’s mother and two teenage children were inside the property at the time of the “unprovoked, senseless attack”.

“This is absolutely heartbreaking for the man’s family,” Superintendent McLean said.

“They have requested privacy at this time as they try to come to terms with the death.”

Heavily armed officers from the NSW Riot Squad raided a house across the road from where the attack took place earlier this morning and arrested a 48-year-old man who they say is currently assisting them with their inquiries.

Investigators say they are actively processing a number of crime scenes along Garrong Road.

No charges have yet been laid.
