Second man charged over deadly home invasion in New South Wales Hunter

Police have charged a second man over the death of another man during a home invasion at Lake Macquarie in the New South Wales Hunter region.

A 60-year-old man was allegedly beaten with baseball bats and knives during the attack at a home on Lonus Avenue in Whitebridge on Monday, December 17.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital where he died a short time later.


A 19-year-old man had already been charged with murder and remains before the courts.

A 23-year-old man was arrested at a home at Windale on Saturday before being taken to hospital for treatment to a pre-existing injury.

Following his release from hospital on Tuesday the man was taken to Belmont Police Station where he was charged murder, steal from person, impersonate police officer and exercise powers/functions, and police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly.

He was refused bail and will appear in Newcastle Local Court today.
