Second man charged over Helensvale shooting

A SECOND man has been charged over the shooting of another man who was shot in the leg and dumped on the side of a road at Helensvale last week.

The victim, a 42-year-old man, was found lying on Helensvale Road with a significant gunshot wound to his leg on Thursday July 19.

He was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition receiving ongoing treatment.


At a press conference on Friday, police revealed the shooting victim had to have his leg amputated following the incident.

As a result of investigations, a 27-year-old man from Arundel was arrested by police on July 22 and charged over his alleged involvement.

He was charged with armed robbery, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and breach of bail.

Yesterday, detectives also arrested a 27-year-old Nerang man in relation to the matter.

He was charged with one count each of acts intended to maim and robbery in company whilst armed.

He’s due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on July 27.
