Second NSW woman dies from meningococcal disease in two days

A young woman from New South Wales has died from meningococcal disease.

New South Wales health confirmed in a statement that the woman had died in a lower Mid North Coast hospital today.

It is the second death from the disease in the state in two days.

Just yesterday an elderly woman died in hospital after suffering from the same disease.

The first symptoms of meningococcal disease may include pain in the legs, cold hands and feet and abnormal skin colour.

Other symptoms may include high fever, headache, neck stiffness, nausea and vomiting, a rash of reddish-purple spots or bruises and drowsiness.
