The Secret Service has confirmed the White House is in lockdown

UPDATE @ 9.00am: The White House has been deemed safe following an earlier security scare, which forced the building into lockdown.

On Tuesday afternoon local time, the US Secret Service confirmed the White House was in lockdown after a person tried to jump over a bike rack, which is used as a barrier along the North Fence.

The suspect was taken into custody shortly after, with the Secret Service confirming via Twitter that The incident has since been cleared.

“Update: Incident along North Fence Line is cleared. Pedestrian traffic may resume along Penn Ave/North Fence line sidewalk area ,” they wrote.

It comes after protesters gathered outside the White House amid Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s meeting with President Trump.

EARLIER @ 7.20am: The US Secret Service has confirmed that the White House is in lockdown.

It was placed into lockdown on Tuesday afternoon local time after a person tried to jump over a bike rack, which is used as a barrier along the North Fence.

“Secret Service responding to an individual who jumped the bike rack along the North Fence Line of Penn Ave,” The US Secret service tweeted.

The suspect has since been taken into custody.

It comes after protesters gathered outside the White House amid Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s meeting with President Trump.
