Selena Gomez reveals she has had a kidney transplant
Popstar Selena Gomez has revealed to fans that she has undergone a kidney transplant.
The 25-year-old singer shared details of her operation on social media, posting photos of her belly scar and her laying in a hospital bed on Instagram.
In one of the photos, she is pictured with her best friend Francia Raisa who donated an organ to the ex-Disney star.
Selena suffers with Lupus, a chronic auto-immune disease, which she said is the cause of her kidney failure.
“I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of,” Gomez wrote on instagram.
“So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health.”
