A SENIOR Gold Coast police officer accused of using excessive force has been stood down from official duty.

The 39-year-old Sergeant is under investigation for allegedly roughly handling a man who was being detained in the Southport Watchhouse. Exactly when the alleged offence is supposed to have occurred is not known.

The officer has been stood down from official duty with the force and has been asked to perform non-operational duties pending the result of the investigation.

“In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when an officer faces serious allegations of misconduct,” the Queensland Police Service said in a statement.

“This does not mean that the allegations against the officer have been substantiated.”
