Seven men charged over million dollar drug bust near Nimbin

Seven men have been arrested and charged after police seized one million dollars worth of cannabis in a raid on a property in northern NSW.

Officers from Richmond Local Area Command executed a search warrant on a property at Mount Burrell, about 10km outside of Nimbin, yesterday afternoon.

During a search of the Kyogle Road property, detectives allegedly found 50 cannabis plants growing in a hydroponic set-up and approximately 100 kilograms of cannabis leaf.


A stash of cash and other drug paraphernalia were also found, police said.

Seven men, aged between 28 and 55, were arrested at the property ant taken to Lismore Police Station for questioning.

A second search warrant was then executed at a home at Lennox Head, where police allegedly located a further 31 bags of dried cannabis, cannabis resin and another pile of cash.

Police said the cannabis seized has an estimated potential street value of $1 million.

The drugs and other items were secured and will undergo forensic examinations.

The seven men were each charged with enhanced indoor cultivation of a prohibited plant for commercial purpose and supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity).

Police said one of the seven arrested, a 52-year-old man, will face additional charges regarding the search warrant at Lennox Head.

All were refused bail to appear before Lismore Local Court today.
