Several injured in fiery stolen truck crash in Hunter Valley

POLICE have launched a critical incident investigation after a stolen truck ploughed into several vehicles and a building before erupting into flames in the NSW Hunter Valley.

Just before 7.30am today, officers responded to reports of a semi-trailer stolen from a service station at Murrurundi.

The truck was allegedly spotted driving erratically south along the New England Highway, through Muswellbrook and towards Singleton.

Police said that as the truck approached Singleton, officers deployed road spikes in order to stop the vehicle.

The truck continued for a short time before crashing into several vehicles and buildings and bursting into flames.

A number of people were injured in the crash, including a man in a vehicle who has been airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.

The driver of the alleged stolen truck was arrested at the scene and is currently assisting police with inquiries.

Police advised a critical incident team will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident including the deployment of road spikes.
