Same-Sex Marriage debate rolls on in the Senate
The debate surrounding the proposed Same-Sex Marriage bill will continue in the Senate today.
The Federal Government is hoping Liberal Senator Dean Smith’s bill wins support before it enters the lower house.
Labor Senator Anthony Chisholm told Sky News he expects the bill to be signed off this week.
“The Australian people gave a really strong endorsement of marriage equality,” he said.
“The way people are viewing politics at the moment it would be very dangerous if the Senate did delay.”
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull decided to scrap the House of Representatives sitting today, to focus on the same-sex marriage debate.
The discussion largely centres around marriage definitions with Conservatives pushing for stronger religious protections.
