Sex predator preyed on ‘intoxicated’ men, offering them lift home from night out

A serial predator has been charged following investigations into a number of incidents where men were sexually assaulted in Brisbane in the past ten years.

The 48-year-old man was arrested at a home in Moorooka yesterday and charged with one count each of rape and sexual assault.

Police say it’s alleged the man preyed on intoxicated young men, offering them a lift home after a night out.

The latest incident occurred on July 2 this year. A 22-year-old man was walking home intoxicated from Fortitude Valley when he was approached the man who offered to drive him home.

The 22-year-old accepted the offer and was allegedly driven to a street in Brisbane’s north where he was sexually assaulted.

Police allege the same man was involved in a similar incident on May 17, 2007 where a 22-year-old man was approached at a bus stop before accepting an offer to be driven home late at night.

The intoxicated man was driven to a carpark in Brisbane’s south where he was sexually assaulted.

Detectives are investigating several other reported assaults in the Brisbane area in the past ten years and are encouraging anyone who may have been a victim of a similar assault to report the matter to police.

The 48-year-old is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
